Awards

List of award established by generous distinguished persons belonging to the clergy and laymen for presentation to the students following the Degree Courses of the Oriental Studies Society of Sri Lanka

 

1. Pracina Pandit General Degree Examination

1.1 Ubhayasekera Gold Medal

Ubhayasekera Gold Medal will be presented to the student passing out first with a First Class in the Pracina Pandit General Degree Examination in the three languages of Sinhala, Pali and Sanskrit

1.2 Stubb Award

This has been established to present the Award out of the annual interest of the sum of Rs. 1000 deposited in the General Treasury by Sir Reginold Stubbs the then Governor of Ceylon to the student obtaining the highest marks in the subjects of History, Archaeology, and Stone Inscriptions in passing the Pracina Pandith General Degree Final Examination in the three languages of Sinhala, Pali and Sanskrit.

1.3 Vaidyasekera Award

This award established by W. Danial Fernando Veda Mudaliyar to be presented to the student obtaining the highest marks in passing the Prcina Pandith General Degree Final Examination in one sitting in the three languages of Sinhala, Pali and Sanskrith.

In the event of such student being entitled to the Ubhaysekera Gold Medal the award will be presented to the student obtaining the second place in passing the Pracina Pandit General Degree Examination in one sitting, in the three languages of Sinhala, Pali and Sanskrit. This award is presented by Madam D.S. De Silva daughter of W. Danial Fernando Mudaliyar.

1.4 Rajaguru Sri Subhuthi Award

This award inaguarated by Rev. Waskaduwe Washissara Nayaka Thero in commemoration of Waskaduwe Sri Nayake Thero to be resented to the student obtaining the first place in the subject of Pali in passing the Pracina Pandit General Degree Final Examination in one sitting in the three languages of Sinhala, Pali and Sanskrit.

1.5 Wimalakeerthi Thisya Award

This award was established with a deposit of Rs. 500 in the Savings bank by Rev. Ahungalle Wimalanandi Thisya Mada Nayake Thero in commemoration of the Thero's Tutor Rev. Pandit Ahungalle Wimalakeerthi Thisya Nayeke Thero to be presented to the student obtaining the first place in the first question paper containing the prescribed books in the subject of Pali in passing the Pracina Pandit General Degree Final Examination in one sitting of the three languages of Sinhala, Pali and Sanskrit.

1.6 Abeywickrema Award

This award was established by the Muhandiram P.F. Abeywickrema of Morawaka Matara to be presented to the student obtaining the highest marks in the subject of Sinhala in one sitting in the three languages of Sinhala, Pali and Sanskrit. The Award was developed with a deposit of Rs. 5000 by Mrs. Maya Abeywickrema, Deputy Director of Education.

1.7 This award was established with a deposit of Rs. 1000 in the Bank by Rev. Korregoda Gnanalankara Thero Pupil commemoration of his tutor Most Reverend Siri Sugatha Sasanawansakalankara Dhammalankara Mahopadya Korregoda Sumathisarabhidana Nayeke Thero to be presented to the student obtaining the second place in passing the Pracina Pandit General Degree Final Examination in one sitting in the three languages of Sinhala, Pali and Sanskrit.

1.8 Mullegama Sri Seelanlankara Award

This award was established with a deposit of Rs. 1500 in the National Savings Bank by the group of pupils commemoration of their tutor most Reverend Rajakeeya Pandit Thripitaka Wagiswaracharya Mullegama Sri Seelalankara Adhikarana Nayeka Thero of Sri Lanka Ramanna Nikaya to be presented to the student passing the Pracina Pandit General Degree Final Examination in one sitting in the three language of Sinhala, Pali and Sanskrit.

 

1.9 Haputale Ariyawansa Nayeke Thero Commemoration Award

This award was established with a deposit of Rs. 7500 in the Savings Bank by Reverend Kadurugomuwa Nagitha Thero, Senior Lecturer in University of Kelaniya to be presented to the student exhibiting maximum competencies in the two subjects of Sinhala and Pali in passing the Pracina Pandit General Final Examincation in one sitting in the three languages of Sinhala, Pali and Sanskrit.

 

1.10 Damunuseye Gnahnratana Award

This award was established with a deposit of Rs. 6000 in the Bank of Ceylon by Reverand Elikewla Seelandnda Thero M.A. in commemoration of Reverend Pandit Damunumeye Gnanaratana Nayaka Thero to be presented to the student obtaining highest marks in the subject of Sanskrit in passing the Pracina Pandit General Degree Final Examination in one sitting in the three languages of Sinhala, Pali and Sanskrit.

 

1.11 Vidyalankara Award

This award was established with a deposit of Rs. 5000 in Bank of Ceylon by Reverend Welamitiyawe Kusaladhamma Nayaka Thero Vive Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya and Parivendhipathi of Vidyalankara Maha Pirivena to be presented to the student obtaining the highest marks in the subject of Pali in passing the Pracina Pandit General Degree Final Examination in one sitting in the three languages of Sinhala, Pali and Sanskrit.

 

1.12 T.D.H. Gunasena Award

This award was established with a deposit of Rs. 10,000 in the Bank of Ceylon by Mr. D.S.H Gunasena, Accountant to be presented to the student obtaining the highest marks in the three languages in passing the Pracina Pandit General Degree Final Examination in Sinhala, Pali, and Sanskrit in commemoration of his farther Mr. T.D.H. Gunasena who was an energetic member and also a committee Member of the Oriental Studies Society of Sri Lanka.

1.13 Weliketelle Sri Gnanawimala Commemoration Award

This award was established with a deposit of Rs. 2000 in Bank of Ceylon by Rajakeeya Pandit Weliketelle Pannasena Pandit General Degree Final Examination in one sitting in the three languages of Sinhala, Pali and Sanskrit.

1.14 Samayawardhana D.M. Weeraman Award

This award was established with a deposit of Rs. 40,000 by Mr. A.A. Weeraman, the present proprietor of Samayawardhana establishment in commemoration of Mr. D.M. Weeraman who was the proprietor of Samayawardhana business enterprise, Maligakanda Road, Maradana, Colombo to be presented to the student obtaining the highest marks in the subjects of Sinhala in passing the Pracina Pandit General Degree Final Examination in one sitting in the three languages of Sinhala, Pali and Sanskrit.
